Such Is Life

You never know what little curveballs life is going to throw at you. Like when you get up in the morning and come downstairs and your kitchen and laundry are flooded, courtesy of your downstairs toilet (clear water, thanks be to small mercies).

After several choice profanities were used the water was mopped and bucketed and then I proceeded to wait four hours for the plumber. My boss (who is one of the funniest people I know), when I phoned him merely stated that I should take my time and whenever I got to work would be fine, and that “shit happens”.

It turns out that it was a blocked drain thanks to a tree out the back whose wayward and destructive roots have penetrated the pipes under my townhouse (don’t think I haven’t thought about taking to it with an axe).

On the upside, while I was waiting for the plumber I edited two chapters of Kiss Butterfly and a short story. That put me ahead in my weekly quota and I haven’t slacked off yet so am ahead for my weekly goal. I still don’t have an ending for The Little Drummer Girl – damn story is driving me crazy. I was working on it last night while Van Helsing was in the background - maybe it’s the distractions that aren’t helping :) - I think I’ll give it another go on the weekend.

CURRENTLY READING: Frankenstein by Mary Shelley (an all time favourite)

I've noticed as this year has progressed, you've become much more disciplined with your writing. You seem to be able to get more done and still maintain some semblance of life away from the keyboard.

Good for you and good luck with the drummer ending.

Killer trees!

Sorry...I'm in a cheesy horror mood ; )

BT, I'm very impressed with myself. I think blogging with you guys has helped me get my act together a lot too.

Natalie, it may very well be one dead tree come Monday morning.

When I lived in an apartment about 10 years ago, the lawn service broke the water line leading into my place.

No flooding (in my apartment, at least), but $1,000 in water bills.

Nice work turning a bad situation into productivity.

*Shit Happens* - I think I love your boss. :)

At least you made the most of it. That says something of your work ethic and character. Good thing you have an understanding employer.

Oh, yuck! That's a bad way to wake up, even worse than stepping in a cold-but-still-damp cat hairball. I'm impressed that you managed to edit while waiting for the plumber.

Aaron, they don't miss you with the bills.

Catherine and Jamie, he is pretty cool.

KC, I'm not a cat fan so I'd have a pretty tough time coping with stepping on a cold-but-still-damp cat hairball. Ugh.
