I have several favourite authors whose books I automatically buy when they come out, they don’t even have to lure me in with the storyline.
I just read Your Heart Belongs to Me by Dean Koontz. I was a bit late reading it as it’s been in my To Be Read Pile. I chose it over several others that I’ve also been wanting to read and I have to say I was disappointed. The beginning was slow but then as the characters started developing and the story unfolded, I got right into it. I was enjoying the direction it was taking and was looking forward to seeing how it all panned out.
The ending was predictable and I was left feeling robbed. Is it me? Am I expecting too much? Is the writer trying something different and I’m not getting it? Either way, I wasn’t happy with it. So, if anyone else has read it, please tell me what you think. I will keep buying his books because generally I love what he writes, my favourites being Velocity, The Watchers, Odd Thomas and Shadowfires.
In relation to writing, I finished editing another chapter of Kiss Butterfly last night. I’m right into it now and although I know I need to finish the two short stories I put aside, I’m hesitant to leave the novel. I think for the next week or so I’ll get another few chapters edited and then finish off the shorts.
Oh, and head on over to Expanded Horizons to read a creepy story by Natalie L Sin called One Too Many: http://gemeskut.net/eh-test/issue-07/one-too-many/

Koontz was also at the top of my "must buy" list. Alas, his work in recent years has not satisfied me as much as his earlier books. I still enjoyed some more recent releases, but for me his best was from the 80's and early 90's.
I think there comes a time when many authors just run out of freshness. They can still craft an engaging tale, but the "wonder" has diminished.
Disappointing the fans is something every writer must face (if he/she becomes big enough). If writing just becomes another paycheck...would that diminish the wonder?
Have fun with the edits.
I haven't read it yet, but I do have The Watchers on my to read pile, and The Darkest Evening of the Year, and Shattered.
I read a lot of Koontz while I was a nurse on night duty during the 1990's, which is why I've got these three waiting for me.
Hopefully I won't be disappointed.
I'm not much of a Koontz fan, but I doted on Stephen King when I was a kid - then along came The Stand and in my mind, the Stephen King I admired and held on a pedestal was gone forever. I understand your disappointment, and hope the next Koontz novel blows you out of the water. I haven't read much Koontz over the last decade - Seize the Night was the last, it appalled me, and I haven't read him since. Oh, apart from Demon Seed!
Wow, I'm psyched that you liked my story so much! : )
As for Koontz, I adored him up until around college. Maybe his books changed, or maybe my tastes changed. I still adore King, but definitely prefer his early work.
I agree about the earlier work thing. Stephen King is on my automatic buy list as well, but I mostly prefer his earlier books.
I used to love Koontz, but went off his stories with 'Odd Thomas'. I was very disappointed that he decided to turn that book into a series.
I haven't read a lot of Koontz lately. I really enjoyed his works from the 70's and I know my wife really has enjoyed the 'Odd' series (at least what she has read). I don't automatically buy any author anymore, although King and Piccirilli are pretty close.
I just love the character of Odd Thomas. Book 2 was a bit of a drag but I loved the first and third.
Koontz is hit-or-miss for me. I've loved many of his novels and hated others (Tick Tock - man, that was a stinker). King, less so. Even his bad novels have entertained me, with the possible exception of Dreamcatcher.
