Editing

Last night I did another edit on The Baited Psychopath and changed the beginning. There was something disjointed about it and I'd agonized over it for days before realizing it didn’t quite “match” the ending. It was one of those things where I literally smacked myself in the forehead when I realized what I’d done. But still, at least I picked it up before I sent it off.

This story is the first I’ve written with a main male character. Every other story I’ve ever written has had female main character, but Oliver was created a few years ago during a writing exercise at a writer’s retreat and finally his story has come to life. I’m not sure where I’m going to send it yet, but I have a bit of a soft spot for Ollie, I think he’s one of my favourite characters I’ve written.

I've given The Death Blossoms to one of my friends to read so should have the crit back soon and hopefully can send it off.

Congrats on finishing your story.

I find it odd to write from a female POV but I will do it if the story is justified. I think that having our MC's be a different gender is probably one of the hardest things a writer can do. Good for you for doing it.

Thanks Catherine, hopefully I'll make some leeway into the others over the weekend.

We'll have to see how it goes first, Jamie, it might be a complete disaster. It's been fun writing it though.

D - are you a member of a writing group, or have other writers who can go over your work? Or do you prefer to work solo and send to market when you're happy with it?

BT, I'm a member of a writing group but we're all writing such different things - one is writing fantasy/sci fi, another erotic fantasy, another romantic suspense and a couple are writing romance. We crit each other's work, so they have a good look over things for me before I send them. Its a great group and a good mix, but its also been great to meet writers online who are writing dark fiction. How about you?
